LongBoat event!
Yo folks,
How are you doing so far? I am back again after few hectic weeks. I just finished the 1st wave of midterm in first year and I have another wave coming up pretty soon in two weeks time.
Last weekend, 1st &2nd Oct was a great weekend with completely new experience. I went to a longboat competition in Jericho Beach. The event is one of UBC Rec's annual activity and also it is the largest canoeing competition in North America.
There were several categories in the divisional longboat race. Some were representing their faculty, some were representing their residence and clubs in the race to name a few.I represented Seri Malaysia Club and we raced against other clubs in UBC! It was pretty fun and new experience.
I really loved the atmosphere in the competition. People were so crazy and random.
The participants were so pumped and super energetic. Some teams dressed up in 80's costume(the theme of the event). They were pretty cool though. Many had their faces painted with various designs. I had mine too. As a team, we painted in gold and black. It was really nice when everyone is participating and having the team spirit!
On the 1st day of the competition, we had heats and all there teams from Seri Malaysia Club was in the same heat. Literally, we had to compete among ourselves, but that didn't keep us away from having fun. I never minded whether we win or not, as long as I had a good time in the race.
We qualified for the finals. The hilarious part is that only Seri Malaysia Club Teams turned up in our category and it ended up racing among our 3 teams. My team was in second place and I was very happy. The game was very tiring but worth for its experience. This race reminds me about the importance of team work especially when we row the boat in synchronized motion. The boat moves quickly than the messed rows. LOL!
For me, it was all about the experience and having fun! No matter what the spirit lives on.
Malaysia Boleh! Seri Malaysia Club pun Boleh!!!
Have a good day.
